The TJ Astra Zahradní Město bowls club, in cooperation with the Pro Bowls e-shop, organized the first indoor tournament on a "short carpet" - the Pro Bowls Cup 2026 - on January 17, 2026, at the TJ Sokol Liboc 2026 gym.

For the first time ever in the Czech Republic, an official tournament was held in the attractive variant of indoor bowls, known as short mat bowls. Six pairs took part, which were drawn into two groups of three. The draw played a joke on us – in one group, only teams from TJ Astra Zahradní Město competed, while in the other, it was pairs from TJ Sokol Liboc.

The matches brought a number of exciting moments and interesting twists. Short mat bowls places great demands on the skill of the players, as well as their tactical and strategic thinking. Another challenge was to cope with the tricky carpet, which was not always perfectly level, adding another dimension and attractiveness to the game.

The results did not play a major role this time, as for most participants it was their first encounter with this discipline. The important thing, however, is that everyone enjoyed the tournament and the participants are already looking forward to the next "short mat" opportunity.

And those who missed out this time have a clear message: don't hesitate and come next time!

Bowls Cyprus, in collaboration with Constantina Bros Hotels (CBH), organized the second annual Atlantic Senior Fours 2025 tournament in Paphos, Cyprus, from December 1–12, 2025.

The venue was the state-of-the-art bowls complex at the CBH hotel resort at the Athena Beach Hotel in Paphos, where all players were also accommodated. This resort is well known to the international bowls community, having hosted the World Bowls Atlantic Championships in 2011 and 2015, the World Bowls Champion of Champions in 2012, and a number of other major international events, including the Atlantic Senior Fours 2023.

Up to 16 lanes were prepared for the tournament, all of which meet international standards for World Bowls-approved competitions and are fully lit for evening play. The Atlantic Senior Fours 2025 included three separate competitions for teams of four – women's, men's and mixed – with all players required to be over 55 years of age as of April 1, 2025.

Compared to the inaugural ASF 2023, most of the traditional bowls powerhouses participated in this tournament, including Scotland, England, Ireland, Canada, South Africa, and several other African countries, so the tournament can be considered the unofficial world championship for four-member teams in the 55+ category. For more information, see: https://atlantic-senior-fours.com.

The Czech bowls team competed in all three competitions for the first time. The men's team consisted of Miroslav CACKY, Jan LETAL, Libor SVATON, Karel STURM, and substitute Radek ZUKAL. The women's team consisted of FULINOVA Helena, OPLETALOVA Romana, and PADYSAKOVA Aida; due to family reasons, Jana Macinova was unable to participate at the last minute, and after agreement with the organizers, a Cypriot player joined the team. The mixed competition (mixed doubles) was played by a team consisting of OPLETALOVA Romana, PADYSAKOVA Aida, CACKY Miroslav, and SVATON Libor.

The performance of the Czech senior bowls team at the Atlantic Senior Fours 2025 tournament was not very successful in terms of results. The men won only once and drew once, and the women also won only once, but compared to 2023, there was a noticeable improvement in their game and they had gained more international experience in the meantime.

The men's team's performance was very uneven – in some matches, the players proved that they could play evenly with strong opponents (the victory over strong Canada was clearly a big surprise and probably the only decent result), but others ended in a relatively clear defeat. The women's team performed more consistently and evenly, but their more experienced opponents were more often able to decide key moments in their favor. The mixed team also did not stand out from the crowd in terms of results. Overall, the Czech teams played better than in 2023, but it was still not enough for a more significant success.
