2026 Championships - Men's Singles - 1st Qualifying Tournament

So it's finally begun! The battles for a spot in the Czech Championship finals!

CABOW, in cooperation with the TJ Sokol Liboc bowls club, hosted the 1st Qualifying Tournament for the Czech Republic Men’s Singles Bowls Championship on May 16–17, 2026, and the action on the lanes was intense right from the very first throw.

B Twelve Czech bowlersB competed for a spot in the final stage of the Czech Republic Championship, divided into B two groupsB and playing a round-robin format. Every end and every ball mattered—after all, only the top two from each group advance to the final tournament! Expectations were sky-high, especially among the players who, in addition to whiskey, had brought back valuable experience from a successful bowls camp in Scotland before the qualifiers.

In addition to a number of surprising results, the tournament featured a series of excellent performances and dramatic finishes that kept players and fans on the edge of their seats right up to the final throws. The first group was won by the focused Petr Žalud, while the second qualifier was the reliable Radek Fiala.

In the second group, Marek Šveda displayed confident and aggressive bowls to win the group, and another Marek—Marek Sedlák—finished in second place with the same number of points. Both of them narrowly edged out the qualifying favorite, Jaroslav Vrátný, by a single ball—so he’ll have to wait for a second chance and consider whether his chosen hydration regimen is what his body—in a mentally demanding tournament—actually needs…

It’s also worth noting that several newcomers—Martin Dvořák, Jiří Ledvina, and Jan Máša—are making their debut in the singles tournament. We’ll see which of them can break through to the top—they all definitely have a chance!

For those who missed out on advancing this time, as well as for players who were unable to participate in the First Qualifying Tournament, it’s not over yet. Ahead of them lies the Second Qualifying Tournament on June 20–21, 2026, which will be their last chance to earn a spot among the elite—though this time, only the top two will qualify.

The second qualifying tournament is sure to feature an exceptionally thrilling battle for the last two spots in the Czech Republic Men’s Singles Bowls Championship. We’re looking forward to it!
